SOPHIE DUNDAS

founder and creative director

I started Sophie Dundas nearly  20 years ago, when I was trying to find a dress and realised that I only really liked vintage dresses. I went to India where I sourced fabrics and started a small line in Summer Dresses.  20 years on, the production is done in Vietnam, where I work with a family of 3 sisters who are all tailors and have their own shop in Hanoi.

The fabrics are sourced in Hanoi,  cut in the sisters’ shop, then sent to outworkers to be stitched at home.  As I only can find limited amounts of the fabrics I love, only small numbers of each dress are produced.

I branched into doing velvets a few years later, and these have proved to be very popular. What I really love is that people have dresses of mine that are over ten years old and still wear them.  Along with skirts and shirts I put out a small collection every year which I hope you will enjoy.
